5 New Year’s Resolutions for You and Your Pet
With the new year approaching, there has never been a better time to change your pet’s daily routine and make a positive change to its health and lifestyle. With a large number of domestic pets in the UK significantly overweight, never has it been such a good time to start a new diet or exercise plan – so let’s get the best possible start to this new year!
Routine Visit to the Vet
Routine visits are key to providing and maintaining good health as well as giving your pet preventative care. Just like us, many medical conditions, including arthritis and diabetes are extremely common in ageing pets. It’s much easier to manage and sometimes even helps to prevent the earlier onset when detected in the earlier stages of the process. Take full advantage of these routine visits and ask your vet (the expert) their opinion on behavioural issues, food or other questions that you’ve been unable to find an answer for.
Good Oral Hygiene
Daily tooth brushing is still the best way of keeping tartar and plaque at bay. Be careful! You should use specialist toothpaste for cats or dogs. There are other products on the market that are also designed to help with oral hygiene in pets such as certain treats and water additives.
Age-Appropriate Diet
The age of pets effects the pet’s dietary requirements significantly. Typically growing pets require a lot of nutrients to ensure their bodies grow strong. Similar older pets may require certain nutrients to help medical issues like arthritis. The quantity and frequency of food also change throughout the pet’s life. Getting the correct diet for your pet is an extremely important part of keeping them in optimal health.
New Activity or Play Routine
Taking your pet for a hike, or even kayaking is actually easy these days, it’s a great way to bond, and introduce your pet into a new exercise routine. Playtime routines and activities actually release endorphins that are similar to us. Not only does getting out keep your pet healthy, it helps keep your pet happy too!

With yet another year passing, people change and things move on. We often forget to update phone numbers and even address’. You may also need to check your contact details are correct on your pet’s tags and microchip information. Just in case they get lost, you know your pet finds its way back home safely.
